The Founding of the Orders

Once, there were three Brothers; The first, Fang, was strong and skilled in combat; the second, Thought, was wise and learned; the third, Soul, was firm of faith and strong of spirit. All served their Mother well, in all they did, yet each acted alone, contributing their best to the Family, but not seeking to work together.

One day, Thought was out gathering food, when he was set upon by a wolf. Luck had it that Fang was near by and, hearing the cries of his Brother, he rushed to the scene and charged the wolf, gouging his knife into the beast's side. Soon the wolf lay dead, but Fang was mortally wounded. Thought quickly began to gather medicinal herbs and leaves, and bound his Brother's wounds, stopping the bleeding.

Suddenly a shadow fell across the Brothers. They looked up to see the leader of the wolf pack. His hide was like hardened leather, covered in scars, and his fangs gleamed in the sunlight.

As he was about to attack, Soul appeared, and showing no fear he leapt upon the beast unarmed. With his fists he pounded the wolf's head, but he was no match and little by little his body was weakened as the wolf rent his flesh. Yet he did not yield, and fought on against the wolf in the name of his Family, in the name of his Mother.

Then a transformation occurred. Through the cold power of his controlled fury and through the strength of his faith he was transformed into a giant serpent, which coiled around the wolf and struck its venomed fangs again and again into the wolf's flesh, until it lay dead. Then Soul resumed his normal shape and he collapsed, exhausted but alive.

On the Brothers' return to the family, their Mother greeted them warmly. "Well done, my Children. Once again you have proved your worth, but you have also learnt the value of each others' skills. Go to the Family. Teach your Sisters and Brothers."

With that the Mother established three orders, each headed by one of the Brothers, to ensure continued unity and strength within the Family. Each order would teach Her Children in the ways of a particular facet of strength, and membership of an order would be acknowledgement of a person's worth in that area. The Order of the Fangs would teach Her Children the need for strength of Body; The Order of the Thoughts would teach Her Children the need for strength of Mind; The Order of the Souls would teach Her Children the need for strength of Spirit. All would act as one under the guidance of Sithis.
