The Trials of Jeliath

' … Then didst Gris collect her wayward Children together and spoke unto them, almost in whisper, for She spoke most Holy Words to them.

"Oh my Children, I have sheltered thee from the world's ills too long, and soon you must be about the Lady's bidding, killing the Heathen. Yet first you must first find the Source, the inner hatred of all living, so you can triumph in a world of Fallen"

And the Children did heeds her words, and took great strength from them, and the Teachings of Gris were passed down through the generations, whilst Gris ruled on.

"When a man comes to you, his clothes all rent and torn, and calls unto you for succour, what should you do?"

"My Lady, I would first inquire of his kin, for he could be kith of mine" spoke Jeliath, High Priest of Sithis.

"Nay, for if he be kith, and thence Chosen, and his clothes all rent, he must have failed, and I shall have none of failure"

"But My Lady" replied Jeliath, for was he not the bravest of the Chosen, he who must learn? "the renting of clothes can surely not mean failure, for what if he has but recently left the field of battle successful, the final survivor?"

And the Lady was amused, and spoke soothingly unto her priest "If he has triumphed, what then his need? … "

" … And Jeliath was greatly troubled, for the problem did vex him sorely, and he did go to his Lady for guidance and understanding.

"My Lady, I have a great problem, one that I cannot solve alone"

And Gris did turn her eye upon her priest "Jeliath, you cause me pain by your failures, you will be replaced, but first speak of this problem that has caused your death"

Yet though greatly feared, he showed it not, for fear is hereditary, a disease to be removed by the death of kin. "My Lady, I have a woman who claims that a child is hers, yet another also has this claim. Both are from respectable families that have served your rule since the Beginning, and both support their daughter's claim. To refuse either will mean strife and the ending of both families.

"So let them die over their stupid claims, it is of no concern"

"Yet My Lady, both families are to produce great leaders who will defeat the fallen, as you predicted"

"Then bring forth this babe which is the cause of such ill feeling"

And Jeliath went into the streets and took the babe and brought him to his Lady. But soon after, both families converged upon the temple and demanded their child's return and Gris did bid them sit and feast awhile, for the babe would be brought in shortly. Yet when the feast was ended, Kalem of the Feketekés didst spring from his chair and ask of his child.

"The child is well, could you not tell?" asked Gris of Kalem.T

And the Feketekés did look perplexed at their Holy Ruler.

"What dost thou mean, My Lady" spoke Abrem Carlessen, Haec of the rival house.

"As thee could not agree about the babe, I have bid thee to feast, and the babe was the meat. Now you have no enmity, for you have shared the child."

And the Feketekés and Carlessens did look upon one another in horror and flee the scene of their crime.

Later, before the setting of the sun sealed his death knell, Jeliath went unto his Lady. "A masterly plan, My Lady, to eat the child"

"But they did not eat of the child ……."

" … but My Lady is gracious"

"… they would not appreciate its fine texture, it has been cooked for you"
