The Woodland Tale

One day, some of Her Children were playing near a wood. Their Mother had often warned them against straying into the wood, as it contained many terrible creatures which might do them harm.

As one of Her Sons glanced in the direction of the wood, he saw a figure moving amongst the trees. The figure beckoned to him, and he followed. As he was about to enter the wood, his Mother saw the danger Her Child was in and called out to warn him. However, he ignored Her warnings and continued into the wood.

As he passed beneath the roof of green, there appeared a hag who stepped forward and grasped the Child in gnarled hands, and bore him away into the trees. Once back at her house the witch murdered the Child and ate him.

Sithis saw what had happened and was displeased. The Child had been wrong to ignore the warnings of his Mother, but otherwise he had lived according to Her teachings, and so would be reborn with a strong skin. Therefore Sithis sent a Snake unto the witch, to strike her with venom and so end the threat to Her Children. Then She set the Snake at the entrance to the wood, to turn back any other Children who may stray from Her path.

Here endeth the lesson of Sithis.
